Any visual representation or reproduction, such as a photograph or a poster, is a language in itself. It expresses, as spoken languages, social structures and questions of power.

-- Visual literacy is understanding of existing visual structures and being able to justify the interpretations of it.
-- Visual literacy means the ability to interpret cultural messages in the visual messages.
